Definitely. Literally, when you're born, you get blue clothes or pink clothes. Personally, I like the color pink, but every use of it by a guy becomes a statement.

And with male gender roles: It's tricky to talk about, because there's a whole poisoned well of men claiming to be "the real victims." But the irony of patriarchy is that it doesn't actually benefit men, it just oppresses women.

Even in a very liberal family, there's a ton of toxic ideas thrown at guys from a young age. It hurts every boy who doesn't see John Wayne as their spirit animal. And one of the very things we internalize is that we're not supposed to talk or complain about it. There's a cult-like aspect to toxic masculinity, designed to draw you in because wanting to learn from your mistakes is portrayed as weakness.
