I didn't end up finishing this show, probably for a similar reason. While very well made on a technical level, I didn't feel like there was any real point. I'm happy to watch a show featuring intense depictions of drug addiction if I feel like it has something to say about it, but it seemed to exist more as an obstacle than anything else. It would be a very inspiring story if it was true, but without that hook, it feels arbitrary. And a major reason behind that was probably what you said, that I didn't really connect to Beth's character, even if I appreciated Anya Taylor-Joy's acting.
